DEN MEETINGS
-
Review generic calendar and highlight changes
-
Den meetings are the 2-5 week of every month
-
Review a basic den meeting outline. Please
note that this outline will change when we go on outings to various places in
the community or surrounding area.
-
Cubs are encouraged to arrive as early as 15
minutes prior to the meeting for gathering activities, to help set up the
lair and to report badge work done at home during the week
-
The 5th weeks are dedicated
specifically to the Religion in Life badge work (Faith in God Booklets
contain these requirements)

PACK MEETINGS
-
Pack meetings are always held the first week
of every month
-
The pack portion of the meeting is the first
30 minutes. Parents and siblings are invited to attend these meetings. There
will be lots of games played as well as business discussed.
-
Review the Pack portion of the meeting
outline and explain how it then turns into a den meeting for the last hour of
the meeting.
-
Please note that every Cub will be recognized
and commended for their efforts each month EVEN if they have not yet earned
any badges.
-
Parents are more than welcome to stay for the
full meeting if they like.

THEMES
-
I am planning the Cub program around
interesting themes. Most themes will last about 4 weeks. Though they could
range from 3 – 6 weeks. Themes are a fun and interesting way to learn and
develop new skills.

DISCIPLINE
-
In order for our meetings to run smoothly and
effectively it is very important that participants are prompt about listening
and obeying the Cub leaders
SIGN
FOR SILENCE
-
Raising an arm in the air and making the Cub
sign means “stop what you are doing, be quiet, and make the same signal.”
-
We will often use this signal when we are
changing activities.

|
OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES
-
At every meeting we will begin and end with
one or a combination of the following: Cub Scout Motto, Cub Scout Law, Cub
Scout Promise and the Grand Howl.
-
We will also use the Cub Scout salute to
salute the flag as we sing O Canada and the scout handshake when we greet or
congratulate one another.

BINDERS
-
Hand out binders and allow time for the boys
and their parents to browse through the contents
-
Binders are to stay here at the church and
will be stored in the Cub cupboard. Cubs, if you want to show your binder to
your parents be sure to bring them in during gathering time to a Den or Pack
meeting. Be sure you have time to do so BEFORE the meeting begins. We will be
prompt.
-
Binders will help cubs keep track of badge
worksheets as they are completed, additional information which their receive
as we do badge work in our den meetings and can be used to also preserve art
work, crafts etc. that will fit in a binder. This binder should serve as a
great way to not only keep track of badges worked on and completed, but also
be a great way to remember the fun that will be shared in Cubs each week.

ASSIGNMENTS
-
Hand out assignment sheets
-
Explain the need and use for these
assignments

RELIGION IN LIFE BADGE
-
The requirements for this badge are based on
the Faith in God booklet. The assignments given each week for a spiritual
thought will allow the cubs to complete the Learning and Living the Gospel
area before the end of June for those who start in September.

REFRESHMENTS
-
Refreshments are a fun option for us to
include in our pack meetings at the beginning of each month. However, because
of the time consuming nature of planning and preparing for the activities I
don’t anticipate having time to add refreshments myself. Would parents we
willing to provide refreshments for our Pack meetings?
-
If so I will draw up a schedule for the year
so that your Cubs will know when it is their month and they can assist in
making the treats.

UNIFORMS
-
Uniforms will be needed no later than the end
of October for investiture in the November Pack meeting
-
The boys will each need their own copy of “The
Cub Book”.
-
This will help each Cub be proactive in
seeking out and achieving badges that interest them individually
-
As parents you can browse through the Cub
book from time to time as the school activities they are involved in will
often fill a badge requirement.
-
Cubs are ready for their Den and Pack
meetings when they are in their uniforms AND have their “Cub Book” with them.
Uniforms will be expected to be worn unless specifically instructed to wear
something they can make a mess in.

WEEKEND MEETINGS
-
One of the requirements of the cub program is
that we have weekend meetings once every two months. That will be
approximately 4 in a school year. I need some help in planning those dates.
Please come to the October pack meeting with an idea of when those meetings
can occur.
-
These meetings will be a daytime meeting
running from about 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It will include the noon meal. When
the weather is nice we will have our meeting outside. In the winter months we
will do them inside the church building or perhaps at another suitable
location.
-
Please note that I will need volunteer help
in order to carry out a day program such as this.

MONTHLY BADGE WORKSHEETS
-
It is my goal to help your Cubs achieve as
many badges as possible. In order to do this, I will be sending home a badge
worksheet every month. This worksheet will highlight 2 or 3 badges that we
are working in which have requirements that are not possible for us to do in
our den meetings. We will need parents to sign and date these worksheets so
your cubs can get immediate credit for the work they are doing.
-
These worksheets need to come back each week
to our den meetings so we as leaders can check the progress of the boys and
ensure that their accomplishments are noted and recorded so recognition is
not delayed.
