GAME: Weathervane

Description of the Game:  Group is spread out facing the leader who is the weather bureau. The rest are weathervanes and they point with one arm in the direction from which the wind is blowing.
·         The weather bureau announces the direction of the wind – 4, 8 or 16 points of the compass – depending on the knowledge of the players.
·         Players spin to point in the direction of the wind announced by the weather bureau who announces changing directions fairly quickly.
·         Occasionally the weather bureau will call “cyclone!” On this announcement the weathervanes spin in circles making at least 5 complete turns.

SKIT: Scary Captain Kidd

NOTE: For packs with less than 3 boys, enlist the help of the leaders and parents in putting together this skit.

SKIT: The Doorbell

Cast: One child, One Adult
Setting: The child is squatting on the ground and crying. The adult approaches.
Adult:   “Why are you crying?”
Child:    “I can’t reach the doorbell.”
Adult:   “Here, let me ring it for you.”
The child continutes crying.
Adult:   “What do you want me to do now?”
Child:    Stops crying and prepares to run… “Run like crazy!” (Begins running away and calls over his sholder) “It’s not my house!”

THEME ACTIVITY: Weather Knowledge

Materials Needed:
·         Copies of “Weather Knowledge” information and worksheets for each cub
·         Pencils
As you teach about weather knowledge encourage each cub to share one memory of an extreme storm they have lived through. Did they heed weather warnings before the storm? Discuss what they already know about weather.
Have the cubs file this worksheet in the “Outdoors” (Green) section of their binders.

THEME ACTIVITY: Paddle Boats

Materials Needed:
·         Wood pieces
·         Waxed cardboard (milk or juice container)
·         Elastic bands
·         Stapler
·         Long Flat tote set up on a table in the kitchen filled with just enough water for the boats to paddle through.
Follow the instructions given in the Cub Book on pages 138-139 to help the Cubs build paddle boats.

When the boats are all constructed allow the boys to play with them in the tote. Ensure that they are particular about cleaning up any messes they make in both constructing and playing with their paddle boats.
