GATHERING ACTIVITY:  Uses for a Computer

Materials:

Paper and pencils for each Cub

Ideas
Have the Cubs write the title “Uses for a Computer” at the top of the page. Divide the paper into two columns and label the columns “at Home” and “at School”. Draw this on the chalkboard to help them with spelling and layout.
Encourage them to list as many uses under each heading as possible. You could do this as a group or individually

GAMES: Coin Hit

Need: Quarter, sidewalk with sections and Playground Ball
Players: Two players
Each player stands behind a sidewalk section ‘facing each other’. They place a quarter standing upright in the sidewalk crack between them.
The first player will stand behind the line of the next sidewalk section and try to hit the standing quarter by bouncing the ball at it. If they hit the quarter they get one point and if it is knocked out of the crack they get two points.
The ball will bounce to the other player from across the crack. The second player will take a turn.
The first person to get 21 points is the winner.

GAMES: Find the Astronaut

Need: Astronaut picture or toy to hide
Hide the astronaut in the room and have the Cubs hunt for it. Hold up a rocket to give them clues as to how close they are to finding the astronaut. The higher you hold the rocket, the closer they are to finding the astronaut.
The person holding the rocket cannot talk at all.
The Cub that finds the astronaut gets to hold the rocket.

BADGEWORK: Musical Rhythm

  Materials Needed:
·         Piano
Play a rhythm on the piano approximately 4 bars long and have the boys one at a time clap or tap the rhythm back to you. Do 2-3 rhythms each.

BADGEWORK: Camping Preparation

  Materials Needed:
·         Paper and pencils for each boy

Have the Cubs divide their papers into the following sections: Sleeping gear, Eating, clothing, first aid.
Discuss together the items that would be necessary to take along in each category to maintain safety and comfort on an overnight camp. Refer to p. 104 in the Cub Book as a reference

THEME ACTIVITY: Paper Mache Piggy Bank

  Materials Needed:
·         Peanut butter jars
·         Newspaper strips
·         Flour
·         Water
·         Bowl
·         Wisk
·         Styrofoam pieces for nose and legs
·         Packing tape as needed
·         Glue gun
·         Cardboard for ears

Teach Cubs how to make Paper Mache with flour and water. Help them make the shapes for their piggy banks by adding legs, nose and ears to the peanut butter jar. Paper Mache body and head separately making sure that the lid will still screw onto the bottle when done. Allow to dry and add another layer.

THEME ACTIVITY: Satellite Model

  Materials Needed:

·         Large marshmallows
·         Toothpicks

Using the marshmallow as the center of the satellite, stick toothpicks in to represent the probes on the satellite ‘Sputnik’.
