Game: Rabbit in the Magician’s Hat

Materials:

q  Something to form a ‘hat’ for the game

Form groups of threes; two boys join hands to form a ‘hat,’ and the third, the rabbit, stands inside the ‘hat.’ Appoint two players to be ‘It.’ One chases, the other runs. When the runner goes into a hat, the rabbit occupying the hat must leave or be tagged. If the chaser catches the runner, he becomes the runner and the person tagged becomes the chaser.
VARIATION for groups of 4 or smaller: Create a ‘hat’ using a box or ring that can sit on the floor for the rabbit to be safe in. If you have 4 cubs you need 2 ‘hats’, one runner and one chaser.

Game: Corner Dodge Ball

Materials:
q  Soft Rubber Balls
Description of Game:
Start the game with players in two to four groups, each group standing in a separate corner of the hall.
On the signal, players must move to a new corner. If they are hit by a ball while changing corners, they are out. When the next signal is given, players cannot run back to the corner they left on the previous change. This ensures that players will alternately run along and across the hall. The last player who has not been hit is the winner.
VARIATION for small groups: Either partition off your room so it is smaller and the corners are closer together or only allow the boys to go between two corners. If you do not have more than 4 boys, have a leader throw the balls until one of the boys is out.

Game: Do This, Do That

Action:
Players are in a spread out relay formation, or a half-circle. May need two or more deep if your group is large. The Leader says ‘Do This’ and touches their nose, claps hands, balances on one foot or performs some other action. All players must repeat the action. Those who do not, drop out and answer a skill-testing question posed by another leader and returns to their place.
If the leader says ‘Do That’ and performs an action, players must remain still. Those performing the action drop out and answer a question.
Start slow and speed up as players become proficient at it.

Theme Activity: Magic Wand

Materials Needed:

q  ¼-inch wooden dowel 12 inches long
q  Sandpaper
q  Glossy black paint
q  Glossy white paint
q  Masking tape

Sand the ends of the dowel to round them.  Then paint about 2 inches on each end white.  When it’s thoroughly dry, wrap some masking tape around the white where it meets the bare wood, and then paint the middle black.  (If you don’t have glossy paint, you can varnish the whole wand when you’re finished.  Also, several thin coats will look better than one think one.)  Peel off the tape when the paint is dry and the wand is ready for your magic show!

Optical Illusions:

There are 11 human faces in this picture. Can you find them all?
