GATHERING ACTIVITY: Toothpick Castle Game

Materials:
        Pop Bottle
        20 flat toothpicks per Cub
How to Play:
Cubs take turns placing one toothpick at a time on the top of the mouth of the bottle.
The Cub whose toothpick causes the “Castle” to fall gives the rest of his toothpicks to the Cub behind him.
The Cub with the most toothpicks left, after several turns, is the King of the Castle

GAMES: Kings, Knights and Dragons

Materials:
Card Templates
King cards, Dragon cards and Knight cards
How to Play:
Shuffle the deck of cards. Draw a card do the associated actions based on the combination drawn.
Knights slay dragons and bow to kings.
Kings circle knights and jump out of the way of dragons.
Dragons chase both kings and knights.
As the cards are drawn the action is taken by the last card drawn. For example Player 1 – Dragon, Player 2 – King (this player will jump out of the way of the dragon – Player 1), Player 3 – Knight ( bows to king – player 2) etc.

GAME: Storm the Castle

Materials:
  •        Large cardboard box
  •        3 tennis balls

How to Play:
·         Divide the pack into two teams, each with a large cardboard box and three tennis balls. The box is the “Castle”, which must be defended from being hit by “catapult” balls. Divide the meeting hall in half, and place one box in the middle of each half. This placement will allow the Cubs to attack the other team’s box from all sides. The object is to kick the tennis balls at the box, with each hit scoring one point. Have the Cubs decide who will be attackers and who will be castle defenders. Teams can steal balls from the other team for attacking.
·         VARIATION FOR SMALL GROUPS: Use only one ‘castle’ and cut a 6” diameter hole in the side. Allow each boy the opportunity to both defend and attack the castle. The attacker that gets the most balls inside the castle wins.

THEME ACTIVITY: CODE OF CONDUCT

Materials Needed:
q  Knight stationery
q  Lined paper for brainstorming
q  Pencils
q  Song sheets
Teach the definition of a Code of conduct. Discuss why knights had one and what it was.
A code of conduct is a set of rules outlining the responsibilities of or proper practices for an individual, party or organization
Sing Song
Discuss why Cubs need a code of conduct.

Stationery for Completed Code of Conduct

THEME ACTIVITY: CASTLE BUILDING

·         Before the Cubs arrive, set out boxes of different sizes, construction paper, glue, scissors, markers, rulers, string, tacks, and other items useful for castle building.
·         If possible have books, or pictures of castles for the Cubs to look at.
·         The Cubs can construct their own castles, or one for the group.

BADGEWORK: Trail Signs - 5 minutes

Introduce signs one might use when marking their trail as they go through the woods. Use a sheet of plastic and a marker as a way to improvise in an indoor setting.
